later as a sailor, he was shipwrecked on the Cape Verde Islands. later still, he was a Californian Argonaut and, at his death, was a member and director in the Society of California Pioneers of '49. After the war he conducted a prosperous restaurant and billiard saloon, a member of the Masonic Order, he was also prominent in the councils of Post 63, G. A. R., where his ability in dramatics and recitations was of signal service
